How to Melt the Lace on a Wig

1. Wearing wig cap

At first, you need to clean and wash your hair if you need to wear the wig for a long period of time, which can protect your natural hair.

Next, you can braid your natural hair and tie it into a low ponytail, tying it as tight as possible without it being uncomfortable. Then, take your ponytail and pull it over your head, but don’t sit too close to your natural hairline, otherwise, they will show underneath the front of your wig.

At last, you can choose a wig cap closes to your skin complexion to hold your hair as well as act as a “scalp” under your unit. Double-check that the front edge of the wig cap is aligned with your natural hairline, and look out for any loose strands of hair, such as baby hair or sideburns, that you need to tuck into your wig cap. Or you could keep a few pieces of natural hair out; this is a nice idea to try if you want to achieve a more natural look by blending your own hair with your wig.

2. Use a fine pair of scissors to trim away the excess lace

Use a zigzag pattern and cut as close to your hairline as possible. Keep going over the hairline and cutting away excess lace until you can’t cut away anymore. There may still be some tiny little sections of lace sticking up, but you’ll take care of those in the next step.

A zigzag pattern creates a more natural-looking hairline and lets you get closer to the hairline than a straight cut would.

3. Applying strong hold hairspray

As well know that using the glue can hurt your scalp and cause a skin sensibility that can lead to hair loss. Meanwhile, when we want to change the hairstyle, it also takes time for us to remove the wig.

Instead of using wig glue, you can use a strong hold hairspray, which has less harm on our skin, and it is easy to install and remove. When installing the wig, you remove the lace you grab a little bit of forming lotion and dab that all over the hairline then you grab a melting brand, and you tie that around the perimeter of your lace and leave it on for about 10 minutes. You remove the melting brand, and you will see that the lace is super melted into the skin.

4. Clean up excess gel along your hairline with a damp towel

Wet a clean hand towel and use a corner of it to gently rub away any visible dried gel in front of your hairline. Brush downward away from your hairline toward your face so you don’t mess up your wig.[10] Some gels are clear while others are white. The white gel may take a little longer to wipe away.

5. Apply makeup along your hairline so it blends in with your skin tone

This may not be necessary if the color of the lace perfectly matches your skin tone. If the lace is a different shade, use your makeup to make the transition from your skin to your hairline look even more seamless. Use a little bit of powder or a small amount of foundation and blend it into your hairline.

Check the color of your part, too. You may want to apply foundation to the part so that it matches your skin tone.
